NTPA Mission: To assist communities in developing, supporting, and sustaining effective truancy prevention practice. NTPA promotes, educates, trains, and provides leadership to communities through partnerships that encourage collaboration to help improve school attendance to fight truancy, to advocate to improve the lives of children and to strengthen families.
|
|
|
NTPA was created by a group of family court judges, prosecutors, school officials and community service providers in 2002 to:
*Promote discussion of and collaboration on national truancy policies
*Create opportunities to establish & replicate good practices
*Identify & expand successful program models
*Create & maintain a database of information and act as a clearinghouse on truancy issues
*Increase and provide education and training efforts

Currrent NTPA Initiatives:
*Partnership with the Office of Safe and Drug-free Schools in the U.S. Department of Education to establish a long-term strategic plan for truancy prevention in the United States.
*Cooperative Agreement with the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP)in the U.S. Department of Justice to conduct research, provide training and technical assistance to communities throughout the country on issues related to prevention of truancy and dropping out of school.
